My heartfelt desire is to help nurture in you an expanded sense of Self, through the physical, emotional and spiritual exploration that is yoga. My sincere intention as a teacher and therapist is to facilitate an experience of self-discovery, self-acceptance, healing and transformation that you can carry into your life indefinitely.
My yoga training encompasses over 1,000 hours of study in asana practice, yoga philosophy and yoga therapy. I started in 2001 with Master Yoga Foundation and the practice of Svaroopa Yoga, under the tutelage of Swami Nirmalananda (then Rama Berch.) In 2010, I stepped away from MYF and studied / mentored with Kim Orr and Contemplative Practice Yoga. New to my toolkit is the next wave in personal growth / human potential modalities ~ Higher Brain Living. I am an Advanced Facilitator.
My gift as a teacher and healer is my profound understanding of pain and the body’s wisdom to heal itself.
I have a uniquely personal perspective through my own experience with herniated discs and sciatica. Through the compassionate approach of supported yoga and the release of core tension, I was able to heal and transform myself from the inside out. As the physical pain began to melt, an awareness of what lived beneath it and within it led me to a deeper understanding of the mind/body connection and the compelling promise of yoga. My greatest passion is to inspire others to come home to their bodies, and in so doing, come home to the Self, and find rest and comfort there.
My personal healing journey has been profoundly inspired and illuminated by many great masters who have moved beyond physical form, including Ramana Maharshi, Bhagavan Nityananda and Neem Karoli Baba.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of studying with these great mentors and teachers:
Sally Kempton / meditation teacher, author, and columnist for Yoga Journal
Jean Couch / posture specialist and founder of The Balance Center
Amma Sri Karunamayi / avatar; living saint
A little about Jody Grombach......
I've been teaching yoga since 2001, and have been working with the body for over 23 years ~ since 1995. I spent over 15 years practicing neuromuscular bodywork as a licensed massage therapist. Even before my formal education as a yoga teacher, I was offering classes for my massage clients, teaching various methods of stretching, self-release, and body awareness; always subtle work; always finessing the body and coaxing openness.
My teaching style is compassionate, playful and intuitive. I hold the space for deep relaxation and healing. My strong anatomy background always informs my teaching and helps support a yoga practice that draws you inward, from the periphery into the core.
I am also a Level 2 Reiki healer. My innate awareness of energy is a potent tool in observing and facilitating. This comes through in the hands-on nature of my teaching, and my work as a yoga therapist.
It helps my students tune into their own awareness of body, energy and spirit.
